Glimmers – A Solo Exhibition by Emily Raubenheimer

I spent late summer and autumn chasing shadows and light. I painted in the golden hours, in still rooms, and beneath the shifting canopy of the bushland that surrounds my studio here in Northern Victoria.

Glimmers is about those small, shining moments that catch us off guard—a flicker of sunlight on glass, the colour of a blossom just before it fades, the warmth of a memory triggered by a scent or a treasured object. These are the fleeting fragments of beauty that I try to capture with my brush.

At the heart of this series are blooms: banksias, nasturtiums, gum blossoms and wattles, paired with familiar household treasures like well-worn cookbooks, gardening guides, copper spoons, and cut-glass vases. Together, they tell stories of place, comfort, and connection.

Every piece was painted in my new studio, which my husband and I built, nestled among the trees overlooking the Campaspe River on Dja Dja Wurrung Country. It is a space full of light and calm, and it shaped the rhythm of each painting. I’ve worked intuitively, allowing colour and memory to guide me, layering soft brushwork, warm pinks, luminous greens, and earthy botanical tones.

This exhibition is my quiet homage to the poetry of the everyday, to sweet memories, to the way nature and nurture meet around the kitchen table, the garden bed, and the art we bring into our homes.
